Genesis: God Created the World
(7 lessons on Creation)

IMG_20141026_101228
For the younger kids (preschoolers), we spread the lessons on Creation (Genesis 1) over 8 weeks — 1 day of creation per week + a review — with a Jesus’ focus for each day.
You can get lots of ideas on story telling, songs and activities at the Ministry to Children site.

1. Weekly lesson’s JESUS focus:

Day 1: God created the world and light
  • Why is light important? (get kids to give some answerse.g. so we can see where we are goingso we won’t be afraid, gives life and brightness to our world etc)
  • Do you know …  Jesus is the Light of the World (John 8:12)
  • When we have Jesus, we have His light. We can see where we are going, we won’t be afraid, and we have His life!
  • Thank you Jesus for bringing light to the world!

Day 2: God created sky
  • Do you know … Jesus is coming again on the clouds/through the sky (Matt 26:64; Acts 1:11)
  • After Jesus died and rose again, He went back to heaven through the clouds. His disciples were all standing and looking up into the sky as Jesus was taken up. Suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them and said, “Why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen Him go into heaven.”
  • So when we see the sky and clouds that God has created, we remember that one day, Jesus will come back again for us!
  • Thank you Jesus that You are coming back again for us on the clouds/through the sky!

Day 3: God created land and plants
  • Do you know … Jesus is the tree and we are His branches?
  • John 15:5 I am the fruit tree and you are the branches. I will be in the person who is in me. That person will have a fruitful life. But you can do nothing without me.
  • (NIV) “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
  • Jesus is the tree. When we believe in Jesus, we become part of the tree — its branches. Just like the branches get life and nutrients from the tree and produces many fruits, we get life from Jesus and our lives will be fruitful!
  • Thank you Jesus for being the tree that gives us life!

Day 4: God created sun, moon, light
  • Do you know … Jesus is always with us?
  • Isaiah 60:19 The sun will no more by your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory.
  • The sun is seen in the day time; the moon and stars are seen at night. But Jesus is the everlasting light — everlasting means all the time, forever and forever.
  • With Jesus, we will never be in darkness. He is with us always, forever and forever.
  • Thank you Jesus for being our everlasting light!

Day 5: God created fish & birds
  • Do you know … Jesus reminds us not to worry — God takes care of the birds; God takes care of me!
  • Matthew 6:26  Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
  • The birds do not have to labour hard or build big factories to keep their food because God takes good care of them.
  • We are much more important to God than the birds.
  • God will always take care of us!
  • So we do not have to worry about our life — what we will eat or drink, what we will wear.
  • Thank you Jesus for reminding us not to worry!

Day 6a: God created Animals
  • Do you know … Jesus is the victorious Lion King!
  • Revelations 5:5 See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed.
  • Jesus has many names in the Bible. One of them is Lion of Judah.
  • The Lion is often known as the King of the animals. It is a big, strong cat, with a majestic mane and a roar that can be heard from 8 kilometers away! When chasing a prey, it can run as fast as 81km/h. It is often used as a symbol of royalty and victory.
  • When we see lions, we remember that Jesus is the Lion of Judah — He died for us and rose again, defeating sin and death — He is our Victorious King!
  • Thank you Jesus for being our victorious Lion King!

Day 6b: God created Man & Woman
  • We are God’s masterpiece — the crowning glory of His whole creation, His favouritest part of all His work!
  • Psalm 139:14 “I praise you, for I am wonderfully made”.

Day 7: God Rested
  • God rested after his creation work was finished: He created the world in 6 days — the heavens, the earth and its inhabitants, including man — saw that it was “very good”. Then on the 7th day, God rested.
  • Jesus gives us rest after His work on the cross was finished: When Jesus died on the cross, He said, “It was finished.” Jesus’ work on the Cross was complete. Jesus was “very good”, and His work was “very good”. Because of that, we don’t have to try to be “very good” on our own. No matter how good or bad we are, God always loves us. So we can just rest in His love and know that we can be God’s children because of what Jesus did on the cross.
